.WMA File Extension

Windows Media Audio File

Audio File
The .WMA format was created by Microsoft and is based on the MP3 format but makes significant improvements to the audio quality while retaining similar file sizes.

The format is most commonly used for playing audio across the internet.

Due to political reasons, these files cannot be played on Apple's iPod but can be played on other MP3 players such as (not surprisingly) Microsoft's Zune.
