SHP File Extension - Open .SHP File (Shapes File)

Files with the SHP extension are associated with the DOS version of Autodesk's 3D Studio Max. The initial 3D Studio product was developed for the DOS platform and was rewritten for Windows and renamed to "3ds Max" only after its 4th release.

SHP files contain various shapes and polygons defined by lines and vertices created with 2D Shaper using 3D Studio.

How to open SHP Files

SHP files can be opened with 3D Studio or imported into Autodesk 3ds Max. If a SHP file contains more than one shape, the user can choose between merging all of them into one object or creating multiple objects. This is done by choosing the desired option in the 3DS Import Dialog. The default option of the application is importing all shapes as a single editable spline object.
