The .ogx file extension was created by the Xiph.Org foundation and is an open standard container format for digital multimedia, unrestricted by software patents (unlike the .mp3 format) and was designed for efficient streaming and manipulation.

OGX files, specifically, are container files which contain multiplexed streams of audio and/or video codecs which may be encoded using different encoder mechanisms. OGX files were developed as a replacement format for OGG.
