.MAX File Extension

Visioneer PaperPort File

Question: What is an MAX File?

Have you found, downloaded or received an MAX file, but don't know which software program is required to open it?

Before attempting to open an MAX file, you'll need to determine what kind of file you are dealing with and whether it is even possible to open or view the file format.

Answer: Files which are given the .MAX extension are known as Visioneer PaperPort files, however other file types may also use this extension. If you are aware of any additional file formats that use the MAX extension, please let us know.

How to open a MAX file:

The best way to open an MAX file is to simply double-click it and let the default assoisated application open the file. If you are unable to open the file this way, it may be because you do not have the correct application associated with the extension to view or edit the MAX file.

This file format was added to our database by a visitor to this site, but no additional information was provided. We have yet to investigate this file type further, or there was not enough information available at the time to report accurately on the format.

Please check back soon for more information as we are constantly updating our file descriptions based on search frequency.

Tip: Try to open the MAX file using a text-editor such as Notepad, as many file types contain simply contain unformatted plain-text and can viewed correctly using this method.

Paperport MAX extension files are a proprietary image format developed in the mid 90's. MAX files can be converted or "saved as" almost any other format by paperport itself. However if you have thousands of images to convert this process will get old fast. There are 10 or more applications out there that also use the MAX extension.

I am looking for an automated way to transform all my MAX files to JPEG or PDF. So far it looks like I better bone up on matrix mathematics.

A .max file typically is a file created by PaperPort software. They are difficult to work with, mainly due to the program not being widely used.

My recommendation to use these files: search the Web for a "PaperPort viewer". They are free to download and install. Once installed, you can view and print the .max files. Then, you can print the document and rescan to PDF, or often you can print directly to PDF.

After I found Paperport 13.1 on sale and I took the chance and upgraded.

After reading nothing but negative reviews on Paperport 8 on up I was sceptical. Not any more. The application has run flawlessly for me and it now allows you to select all the files in a folder and save as PDF thus converting the potential problems. I have converted thousands of *.max files to PDF.
