The .M4V file format is used by Apple iTunes to store video. These files often hold a variety of video from music videos, full-length movies and TV episodes.
This format does support copyright protection, also known as DRM (Digital rights management). In other words, if the file is DRM protected, you can only play the file through the iTunes account that purchased the video originally.
