M2p file is a MPEG-2 program stream. This is a container format for multiplexing digital audio/video. It is similar to MPEG-1 but also supports interlaced video and more audio channels. It’s commonly used for streaming digital video over the Internet.
Standard MPEG-2 videos are stored in containers with file extension .MPG, .MPEG or .M2V. Standard MPEG-2 audio files usually have .MP2 extension.
