An image file format generally used for photographic types of images. The JPG compression method is 'lossy' and does not retain exact pixel color characteristics if it is repeatedly stored and refreshed. The JPG file format does not support transparency. There is no difference between JPG and JPEG.

So, does lossy mean that over time the picture is going to lose its quality?
