John --- If all your after is to view a .gts on your PC and your using Winblows then you need to just install the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack!!! This codec pack is nice to have anyway for all kinds of video related stuff. Check it out.

Well...sorry about that...I thought it would be in that one. I just installed Some K-Lite stuff to view my .gts. I'm not logged into my windows computer so I'm not for sure this is correct but you might do a search for klmcodec149...I'm pretty sure that's the one that'll work. I know one of the K-Lite packs will work you might have to try a few. This is the main site for K-Lite www.codecguide.com . You may or may not find something on it.

CaptiveWorks 800 records to USB flash or external USB harddrives using mpeg2. Try renaming the .gts file extension to .mpeg. Its just as simple as that!

Thanks for the heads up on Total Video Converter I'll check it out...

I tried the rename trick....it sort of worked....it is definitely of the mpeg family....but just doing that isn't going to get me what I'm after....when I just change the extension and then try to edit the video it will import into the program and will encode but with serious problems....video stuttering and A/V out of sync.

    convertstream
It is made by CaptiveWorks, specifically for converting the .gts files to .mpg
    How to use it;
in the Open box, browse to the .gts file you want to convert.
in the Save box, browse to the location where you want to save the .mpg file
in the File name box put in the name the file to be called (example; converted.mpg) ignore the fact that it shows you can only save as *.ts and *.gts.
then click OK. it will seem like it is doing nothing, but it is converting the file. It will pop up a message box stating that the file has been converted.
    Hope this helps.

For viewing gts files use the K-lite media player. when viewing you'll get an error message but hit ok than later it will play it. And use ConvertXtoDVD to convert the file to dvd.

I downloaded the K-Lite codec pack from Free.codecs.com and then Windows Media Player Classic from sourceforge.net and I managed to play it without even changing the extension , only thing is i'm not sure if the codec pack actually did anything , so the best thing you can do is to get the windows media player classic first and if it couldn't play it , get the codec too , but somehow I think that codec didn't really do anything .

In works in what media player? I have VLC videolan , WMP 11 , Quicktime , Realplayer (All their latest versions of course) and none played it with that trick , Only Windows Media player Classic played it and that didn't need a file extension change !

Why the hell is everyone here giving bad advice. If you don't know, don't say anything. One guy says install k-lite whoops that's wrong. Another says videoredo whoops thats wrong. Another one says rename the file to mpeg, whoops thats wrong. We're asking some1 who knows, not some 1 with a hunch (geez).

    Hey Mr. wtf,

    Suck on this:

I just reinstalled windblows and paid very close attention to what I installed to view the .gts file.

    IT'S THE:
K-Lite Mega Codec Pack version 1.4.9.0
    File Size: 32.1mb
When I installed I selected Profile 5 'Lots of Stuff'

plays it absolutely great can jump ahead jump back whatever it just keeps playing it great.

So bite me Mr. wtf: I said it might be a different pack and it was!!!

    ----------------------------------------------------

    Majid:

I have tried all kinds of different media player classics by themselves to no avail. So now I found out for sure that I have to have the 1.4.9 Codec Pack.

For those that don't know Media Player Classic gets installed with the K-Lite Packs.

I tried different packs....uninstalling and reinstalling all sorts of stuff....while trying to play the .gts file in between installs and reinstalls to see what would work.

Pack 4.xxxx would bring a failure to play window up but would still play it.

    -----------------------------------------------------

If you're after a .gts file editor I highly recommend VideoRedo!!! Extremely easy and works very well and

outputs to a far more compatible mpeg format.

Now if you can't get it from there.....then SORRY FOR YA!!!!!!!

I am seeking advice on how to change an AVI file to a GTS file. I have a few movies in AVI format but would like to watch them on the big screen using my receiver. Does anyone know of a program that will convert AVI to GTS?

The GTS is another form of mpg. Your box should play all mpg files also. So just convert avi to mpg and you should be fine
