Files with the extension .DJVU (and sometimes .DJV) are compressed images, which are increasingly seen as an alternative to .PDF files. The format is open-source and was originally designed to store high-resolution color scans of documents. The format was originally designed by AT&T and marketed by LizardTech. The format is pronounced 'De-Ja-Vu'.
