The .bmp format was once a popular file format for storing images but due to the data not being compressed, the format's popularity has declined as bitmap image sizes are large and inefficient for transferring across the internet with GIFs, JPEGs, PNGs being preferred as they are much more portable.
It is somewhat similar to the pict format.

I have been scanning slides. I keep getting scratch disk full. I have a lot of bitmap files from the scanning. I cannot delete them. How do I do this? I have changed the slides to pdd files.
