In DOS and Windows, a batch file is a text file with a series of commands. When the batch file is run, the shell program (command.com or cmd.exe) reads the file and executes its commands in order.

A safe and simple method to read a batch file is to rename it. Thus myfile.bat becomes myfile.txt. Then open the text file with a text editor like notepad.
