.ARN File Extension

Astronomical Research Network image format

Question: What is an ARN File?

Have you found, downloaded or received an ARN file, but don't know which software program is required to open it?

Before attempting to open an ARN file, you'll need to determine what kind of file you are dealing with and whether it is even possible to open or view the file format.

Answer: Files which are given the .ARN extension are known as Astronomical Research Network image format files, however other file types may also use this extension. If you are aware of any additional file formats that use the ARN extension, please let us know.

How to open a ARN file:

The best way to open an ARN file is to simply double-click it and let the default assoisated application open the file. If you are unable to open the file this way, it may be because you do not have the correct application associated with the extension to view or edit the ARN file.

This file format was added to our database by a visitor to this site, but no additional information was provided. We have yet to investigate this file type further, or there was not enough information available at the time to report accurately on the format.

Years ago I worked for ARNI in Minnesota as a tech writer. Ken received tapes from NASA and other governmental facilities, converted the space images to his priority ARN format, and was the first in the world (as far as I know) to produce DVD's that schools, or an individual could use to view and explore images from space.

Eventually others began producing these images and with the coming age of the internet the Astronomical Research Network gracefully moved into the meteor business (buying and selling), authored several books pertaining to meteorites, and to this day remains a viable meteor business. A person the meteorite community looks to for reliable information.
