ZBrush Model File

Image File
The ZPR file format is used for saving ZBrush projects. ZBrush is an application developed by Pixologic as a painting, modeling and texturing tool for creating complex 2.5D and 3D models. The software uses a proprietary technology based on "pixols".

Just like pixels, pixols store information on positioning and color values. Additionally, pixols are also used to store information on orientation, material used for the model and "Z positioning" or depth. If the project is exported to an image format like JPG or BMP, all the 3D pixol data is lost.

The ZPR format was introduced in ZBrush 4 and it represents a considerable upgrade over prior formats. This is mainly because ZPR files can be used to store significantly more model data. This includes size, materials used, lighting, timeline, rendering settings and even the model's position and size on the canvas. This allows the user to pick up the project exactly where he left off.

How to open ZPR Files

Because of the special "pixol" technology, ZPR files can be created, opened and edited only with ZBrush. The software is available for both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Microsoft Windows, and also for Mac OSX and for Linux.
