.WIZ File Extension

Microsoft Office Wizard

Data File
The WIZ extension indicates a wizard file created with Microsoft Word or Microsoft Publisher. Both applications belong to the Microsoft Office Suite, Word being a powerful word processor and Publisher a desktop publishing application. Documents created with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Publisher can contain various elements such as images, drawn objects, tables, links to websites and also links to other local files.

Both applications can be used to create and store templates and macros. By creating a template the whole process of building a specific type of document from scratch, for example a business letter, can be avoided. Every time a business letter is needed users can simply add text and other content to their template and save it. Embedding macros into the document's structure is done via the Macro Recorder which can be used to save command sequences into macros which replicate them automatically.

WIZ files are used to store all the macros and templates of a document into a single file and to provide users with a step by step guide for executing a complex or repetitive task. WIZ files are created by replacing the default template extension with the WIZ extension.
