Before attempting to open an U3D file, you'll need to determine what kind of file you are dealing with and whether it is even possible to open or view the file format.

Answer: Files which are given the .U3D extension are known as Universal 3D files, however other file types may also use this extension. If you are aware of any additional file formats that use the U3D extension, please let us know.

U3D is the Universal 3D format, developed by a diverse group of companies, but it has been slow to catch on.

It can be used by several drawing programs, but its most important use is probably embedding in .pdf files. It is the one 3D format that Adobe Acrobat supports, although it isn't supported in all PDF viewers.
