.IAM File Extension

AutoDesk Inventor Assembly

3D/CAD File
The IAM file format is associated with Autodesk Inventor, a CAD (Computer Aided Design) application developed by the US based software company Autodesk, Inc. The application is used for three dimensional digital prototyping. Its main purpose is the simulation and visualization of products before starting the building process.

The IAM extension is used by Autodesk Inventor for storing assembly files. An IAM file consists of various components and parts of a product that are linked together parametrically. The standard version of IAM files is used to accommodate assemblies that don't require welding. Autodesk Inventor also features a "Weldment.iam" template that can be used for assemblies that also include welded components.

How to open IAM Files

IAM Files can be created and edited with Autodesk Inventor or simply imported into the application. Autodesk Inventor is only available on the Microsoft Windows Platform.
