I have saved my entire college diary for my exams, I have had no problems but when I went to open it last night I had this message "The file may be in use by another application, the file format may not be supported by any of the installed converters, or file maybe corrupt" ...I need to print this urgently and am at a loss of what to do.

OpenOffice.org is the only solution. Stop having headaches with Works, stop paying and arm and a leg for MS office. OOO is a free fully functional office alternative...and NO, I'm not getting paid to say this or have I ever worked for OOO. I have used it for years and it is a great, stable product!

Did anyone ever solve the losing of a document in Word 8 and then getting the 'file may be in use by another application, the file format may not be supported by any of the installed converters or the file may be corrupt' message. My document just disappeared without warning while I was rewriting and only saved the last three words I'd typed.I use the five minuite save option, so the document must be there somewhere! Help please.

I had the same trouble as a lot of you when trying to transfer old Works "wps" files from my old laptop to the latest Works version on my new laptop; the same error message and failure to open the files.

I cracked the problem by saving the old "wps" files from my old laptop as "text" files on a memory stick, and then opening them from the stick as "text" files in the new version on the new laptop but then saving them there as "wps" files. Bingo!

When I send emails with attachments, the recipients sometimes cannot open the attachments. These are .wps files. I use vista home premium and Microsoft Works/Word. Some people seem to be able to open my attachments ok, and some not. Any ideas? Anyone? Help!

Am frantically job hunting, obviously haven't been able to afford Word software so I'm using Works which came installed on my laptop. Done my CV intending to print some off, one job in particular at the moment I want to apply for which are only accepting applications the old fashioned way - by post with CV and covering letter - and I can't open the damned CV document to do anything with it!!! I had no idea this was the catch of the free Word Processor! >:(
