A KDE .war file (Web Archive) is simply a compressed gzip tar file. Its usage is limited to KDEs web browser Konqueror. Basically, if you see a web page you want to save *exactly* as it appears on your screen, Konqueror saves it as a single gzipped tar file with all css, javascript, jpegs etc.It's main weakness is that Konqueror is the only web browser that uses this method.On the up side, you can store a large number of webpages, in a standard compressed format and they can then be viewed exactly as their designers wanted them to be seen.You can open a .war file in any other browser in a two step process: 1. Unzip the archive in a directory then, 2. use any browser to open the "index.html" file there.
