The .TOD file format was created by JVC, to be used by their high-definition camcorder range (I.E JVC Everio).

The .TOD format is simply an MPEG2 formatted video file. If you wish to view the file on your computer, it is reportedly safe to rename the extension from .mod to .mpg

JVC created the .TOD format due to apparent copyright issues.

The known camcorder models that use the .TOD format are:

JVC: GZ-HD7, GZ-HD3, GZ-HD5, GZ-HD6, GZ-HD30, GZ-HD40

HELP! I'm desperately trying to find a way to convert .TOD files so I can edit them in adobe premiere pro 1.5, but nothing seems to work. Renaming files doesn't work, neither converting them to .AVI ... Is there a setting in premiere I should be aware of, or is my premiere version just not compatible with the .TOD format?

I was facing this problem with a relatively low technical ability so to find the information above that read "it is reportedly safe to rename the extension from .mod to .mpg" seemed like poetry to me.

I did exactly that and hey presto in seconds I now have my movies playing in media player.

I have changed extention to .mpeg and it works perfect and keeps HD quality. Do not use AVS4UOU as it decrease quality and you will have to pay for not having a water mark on your movie.
