TMP FILE EXTENSION

Temporary File

Backup File
TIP: Run a Free Scan for .TMP File Errors.
TMP files (known as temporary files) are used by many different computer programs. As the name suggests, these files are created to hold temporary data, usually to be retrieved at a later date.

Temporary files can contain any kind of data in any kind of format, and can potentially be used by any computer application, so it's not possible to list all the related applications and tools here.

However, if you are trying to find which application created or uses the file, the location of the .tmp file can often provide clues.

As these .tmp files can be created by so many different applications, it's not possible to say if these files are safe to delete; as some programs may require the data again whereas other applications may not.

If you think it may be safe to delete a .tmp file, make sure you create a backup of the file just-in-case.

I just downloaded Shockwave Player and this tmp popped up. It's called GLB62.tmp and it is located in my C drive under Documents and SettingsLocal SettingsTempGLB62.tmp. It wants access to the Internet and McAfee doesn't recognize it, even though I downloaded it from the Adobe site. What gives?

I've got two files on my computer called ~WRL2600.tmp and ~WRL3108.tmp. What are these? They were created while I was working in Microsoft Word. Don't know If they are related somehow but they were created in the same folder as my word document though. Sometimes when I save a document I also get another file created with the same name but has ~$ in the beginning instead of the two first letters. It is also created in the same folder as the document.

Hi All,My .net application automatically creates .tmp files, and are saved under c:winnttemp folder. Now when the clients access the application, they also should be having the permission to c:winnttemp folder to allw writing .tmp files, or else Compiler Error Message: CVT1108: cannot open C:WINNTTEMPRES4F42.tmp for writing. After manually giving authenticated users 'Write' Permission to C:WINNTTEMP, Application runs perfectly. This is only a temp solution, after sometime the c:winnttemp folder will not allow authenticated users to write ( the write permission would have been unchecked automatically).Any suggestions please..Girija
