Temporary File

A temporary file is a file opened by a program or an operating system to store information whilst it is being worked on. Many programs generate temporary files. This can lead to problems when the program forgets to delete the temporary files because they mount up, and begin to occupy otherwise useful disk space. They also represent a security problem because information that was recently worked on will be available to those who know how to extract it from the temporary files.
