NXT files are executables which contain instructions in a form of BASIC to be read by the microcontroller on an NXT Lego Mindstorm robot. The instructions in these files typically can control all sensors attached to the robot as well as the motors for a robot.
These files are usually uploaded to the robot from the machine where they are written in order to be executed, though they may also be remotely debugged.
