RTFD format was made by NeXT, and was sold to Apple a long time ago(in the 80's). It is a RTF (Real Text File) document with attachments embedded within it. Usually the attachments are images, but they can also be movies or many other things. This format is natively recognized by Apple's TextEdit application that comes with every Mac. I currently know of no PC based software that will open it.
