A binary file format that is used by many opensource routers and embedded systems in order to provide firmware and software updates. These files typically contain the data needed for security patches and various bug fixes contained in the software of an embedded system.
These files are most often used by routers which used a Linux embedded system at its core; the routers which use this system include the Linksys brand as well as some Cisco and Netgear routers.
