.PL File Extension

Perl Script

Developer File
Files with the PL extension are scripts written in Perl, a high-level, interpreted, dynamic programming language developed in 1987 by Larry Wall. PL files contain lines of Perl code which define programming elements such as functions, variables, objects, constructors or classes. Because the Perl language has a compact syntax, the code may be difficult to read even for users with prior programming training.

Perl scripts are used for developing Web Servers CGI scripts and a wide range of applications, especially Web apps. Due to its quick app deployment and capability to handle large amounts of data, Perl is also commonly used in bioinformatics and finance.

How to open PL Files

PL files can be opened and edited with any text editor such as Notepad for Windows, TextEdit for Mac and Vim or Nano for Linux.
