A file format that stores MPEG-2 format video streams. These files may also be found under the extension MPG.
MPEG-2 significantly reduces the size of an uncompressed video file by compressing the video and by allowing lossy audio compression, or audio compression that doesn't maintain sound channels that are normally outside the range of human hearing. This video format is the only format used for DVDs and for digital TV broadcasting.
