When trying to burn a DVD using Cyberlink, the video files will not transfer. It begins to but then freezes. Out HDD is pretty full but not maxed out but it still should not take this long to burn onto a dvd.Sometimes it will not even let me select any options as it just gets stuck. Any suggestions? I really just want to get the video off the camera and onto a DVD any way possible.

I have been reading all the threads and seem to understand a little more on the conversion of mod files however, I would like the files that I convert to hold their original date when they were taken.I have hundreds of videos of an overseas trip and use the date order to determine which day of the trip it was. When I convert them they all show the same date (date of conversion) Is there any way, other than me having to rename all of them prior to conversion with Day 1, Day 2 etc. to do this?

Thanks so much for your response. I tried your suggestions. The files are still .JPG after unselecting the hide extension option. I can view the files as pictures in the picture viewer. I'm still not sure why. Also, they aren't on the camcorder. I'm pretty sure I deleted them to make space to record more. I've even tried some file recovery programs to see if the files could still be found on it. I would love to hear any other suggestions you have.

I'm just about ready to toss my JVC camera off the CN Tower, no mater what I do I run into issues and the software that I got with it makes things even harder to deal with. Using a camera in this day and age should not be this hard. My Canon sureshot is easier to use than the JVC and it's nearly 4 yrs old. It's nice that there is 16 pages of questions and answers on this site but really who has th etime to read it all and even if I did have the time is there an easy answer. All I want to be able to do is plug in the camera and get the stills and videos onto the computer, is that too much to ask?? I'd like to edit the video but that can be another day. I bought the JVC for a vacation that is coming up in a few weeks, if I can't resolve the issues I'll be taking my Canon with me, at least I know it works.

Hi Gabriella,I entered a very long description of how to deal with .MOD files, but the managers of this site obviously deemed that it was not worthy to be shown here. [Or we have a HUGE backlog of comments! ;) - Ed]In short the format most likely to work on windows movie player, is, unsurprisingly, .WMVThe WMV stands for Windows Media Video, so I imagine you can see the connection. It is probably one of the most popular formats around, and any video converter that can't convert to wmv is all but USELESS. Try AVS4YOU it is a great conversion program and has NEVER failed me. It can convert to-from .avi .mp4 .mpeg .wmv .swf .flv .mov .3gp Blu-ray, and a whole lot of other stuff like iPhones, iPad, iPod etc. It's not free - but it's not expensive either. And what do you want to do - muck around with a free program that doesn't work or pay a bit and have a great program with upgrades included, that never fails you?

I had done some video yesterday and did not test it out so now when I hit playback, it playsback so fast like it's on fast forward, so I can't even view my video like at a normal speed.What did I do wrong? How do I fix the playback setting so I can view normally and if that is not possible, any way to grab my photos from the JVC Everio? I have the JVC Everio GZ-MS110BU model.

I have MOD files from a Panasonic camcorder. I can make DVDs using Windows DVD maker, but the video becomes distorted around minute 4 in all of my videos. The sound continues to play, but the video is unrecognisable. Would converting my MOD files to .avi help? Thanks.

Hi Carolyn,This is my 1st and very basic question in this forum.I have a JVC Everio GZ-HD6, and I have been searching for a module to convert the video file to .MPG. You're telling us to download the conversion software and rename the .MOB to MPG. However, the video output file from the Everio seems to have a pair of .MOI and .TOD files. There's no .MOD files.Are you saying I don't have to worry about those extensions. If I just run the software, will it automatically take care of these things?What's the relationship between .MOI and .MOD?

Hope this thread is still active.I too can not get WMM to work. Altering the extension to .MPG allows windows media player, as well as another media app, to play the files just fine on my winxp system. However, I get the same wrong codec error regardless of whether or not the extensions are changed. I downloaded an MPEG codec (MPEGDecoder12) even, and WMM does not work whether it is checked in the Options/Compatibility menu or not.I even downloaded SD Copy (which was quite difficult to find as the URL listed above does not seem to be in use). It "converted" all the files to MPG, however, I still get the same codec error! Any ideas?Out of desperation I downloaded Prism which at a very slow rate did convert the files to .wmv, and they actually worked in WMM! So that's a start, but, I am concerned about quality, the size is a bit larger, and I'd prefer not to go through the converting .wmv process for a number of reasons.If anyone has good ideas about a way to still "convert" the .MOD files to .MPG so they will work in WMM using free software, please help!

Bellalily, I take it you are trying to download from camera to DVD ? I think that is possible, however I believe a more reliable method is to download to your Hard Disc and burn from there. If there is not much room on your Hard Disc - use a flash drive, and do it from there. Unless you have at least 15% of the capacity of the Hard Drive available as free space, you will have problems. So perhaps clean it up and delete all the temporary files and see how you go.

Vicki: Try saving the original footage into specific folders marked Day 1, Day 2, etc., and THEN do the conversion. Make an Destination Folder inside each folder to send the converted files into, so that you have both the original and converted in your Day 1 folder, in your Day 2 folder, etc. Did I muddy that or did that make sense?Paul: Yes! WMV is the way to go, and I use older Windows Movie Maker v6 to work with MOD files. YES!!! WMM6 will work with MOD, you just have to switch the settings slightly: Import/Videos/Picture and Video Files. Change the Picture and Video setting to All Files, and you can import MOD files into WMM6, load up the clips, and Produce back to a Save Destination folder, converted to a WMV instead. I did this before and used PowerDirector 7 and then 8 to edit footage.But lately, I HATE Cyberlink products. Horrible customer service, when I get it, and horrible software with a massively upgraded and better laptop. I now use Pinnacle Studio HD Ultimate Collection 14. 15 is out now, so I may even move to that. Best thing about it? WORKS WITH MOD!!! And works quite well, I might add.Hope this info helps.

Jack, thanks for your reply. Yes, what you say makes sense. I will give that a go and, that way I still keep my older files as they were taken. I have been looking at the Pinnacle software.....looks really good. Are you able to import mod/moi files directly from jvc camera to the program? Thanks again for your help...much appreciated.

I have not long ago done the same thing. After you download the videos to your hard drive, before you do anything else, re-name them with a code, either place name or number.When you convert the file it will retain the number or tag you have given it, so that you are able to identify when and where the video was taken. It takes a bit of time, but, it is REALLY worth it in the long term, because you don't get mixed up with dates and locations, and you don't have to keep looking at the video to remember which one it is.Also, keep a list in chronological order and place name, so that even makes it easier when you come to produce a DVD.

Francois: you forgot to mention that the link you provided is to a company that charges 29.99, and God knows what the Euro conversion is from or to American dollars. Please keep in mind that those of us who have purchased a camera that records in .MOD format don't feel like spending the extra bucks for something that should have been included free to begin with. Vicki: Yes! Pinnacle 14 and 15 may be a step down from high end brands like Adobe Premiere, Sony Vegas and whatever Apple has, but it is very very simple to use, and best of all, works perfectly with .MOD files. I download the files from my camera into a folder on my D drive (I try to keep C drive for programs only), open up Pinnacle and import the files. I've been using this for about 6 months now and never looking back to Cyberlink products again.I take that back... PowerDirector8 has a great photo editing tool called PhotoNow that lets me crop a photo to 16:9 dimensions, to use in credits and such, and on occasion, I use their editing system to extract audio from the video into mp3 format. Pinnacle does not do this, although you can drop a video file into the music or audio portion of the time line and you will have an extracted form of audio to play with. You just can't save it as an mp3. So I keep both for the hell of it.I hate to sound like a commercial for Pinnacle since I am not getting paid for it, but if it works, it works. If you want a simpler method to edit video, go online and download an old school version of Windows Movie Maker v6. They are out there, just make sure you download the right one (32 bit, 64 bit, etc.). It works with .MOD, too, but you have to switch the search settings when you import (see my previous entries above for this tip). I like it more than the Windows live version since the new version doesn't use a time line like I am used to. Instead, it has a bunch of picture windows. Eh, I'm getting too old for this $#!+ lolGood luck everyone, it can be done if you are patient!

I'm sure I'm not in the right place but i will try anyway.I have a jvc hd everio gz-hm200 and i don't really know much about formats and stuff. It came with a software disc so that when i backup my files it goes to everio media browser.Now my question is when i open everio media broswer, I can see all my pics and videos but when i try to post on facebook or something i open my file and then go to videos and none of them are there. how can i get to them?

Cherise: Don't bother with the software disk. Come to think of it, I don't recall ever owning one in the first place.When I plug in the USB cord into my camera and then into the computer, I follow the on-screen instructions from the camera, and then choose Back Up. Your computer should make a sound, notifying you that the camera has been opened up on your computer, so instead of opening up the Everio Media Browser, click on your Computer icon and you will see your Everio hard drive icon. Click on that, then SD_Video, then PRG001, and that takes you to your videos.Simply copy and paste to a folder you make on your computer. Same with the photos, except that you go to DCIM in the Everio hard drive icon to find your photos. Hope this helps.

Cherise, you ARE in the right place. There are so many people on this thread that really do know what they are doing when it comes to the JVC Everio cameras, software, and short cuts and tricks, that all you have to do, is read the questions and answers here and you will understand your camera and how to produce videos much better than you can now. Very quickly, if you just want to post something on facebook, you need to convert the .MOD files to a format that is understood by facebook ie. .AVI, .WMV and many others.You need to use the software that came with the camera. I did a short explanation on all that in the last couple of pages on here (page 15 or 16) Once you have that mastered you can become extremely capable in a very short time.

Huge thank you to whoever it was that posted that free link to update the quicktime player. I spent parts of 3 days looking for how to play the videos I've taken with this expensive piece of c**p panasonic SDR H80. After what I just had to go through just to play a .mod file on my windows pc, Sony and Panasonic should be boycotted for their ridiculous proprietary practices.Yeah, I probably could have had this up and running quickly if I'd been willing to pay even more money to panasonic for the converter they wanted to sell me but, hell no! I already paid good money for the freaking SD/HDD camcorder, I'm not paying even more to actually play my recordings!How are they allowed to get away with such deceptive practices? They're baiting with a product and requiring an after-purchase product to make it work.I now despise and detest Panasonic. And Sony (for doing the same thing). I will take every opportunity I have to tell my story in as many venues as I can to make them pay for screwing people like this.Thank you again to whoever posted that link. You have helped immensely to end this nightmare.

you can now upload .mod files to facebook without conversion at least according to the help pages. I've only uploaded .avi (after I've trimmed a .mod video from everio) see: http://www[dot]facebook[dot]com/help/ for all file formats
