I figured out why the sound was being converted when I used prism to convert .mod files to .avi files. At the bottom of the prism app, there is a button labelled "Encoding Options". Click it, and you'll get a dialogue box. One of the options is "Sound compressor", which is set to mp3 by default. Change this to "DV Audio", and then the sound will also be converted correctly.

Hello carolyn, I myself am having problems also. Basically the scenario is that I am making a highlight video for our wrestling team...We to used the JVC camcorder to record and then downloaded them onto a laptop...However because of the large amount of video we transferred them onto a hundred gigabite external hard drive...the video were then saved to a folder within the harddrive....
My problem is that when I go into Prism and try to import the files...I browse my way to the folder and when i get into the folder none of the files appear to be there....I am using a different computer with the hard drive now but nothing seems to allow the videos to show up...I even tried copying them to the desktop...but no cigar...could you please aid me it is very urgent....thank you so much

I just bought an HP windows vista 64 bit laptop. My JVC Everio mg-330 mod files are not recognized when I try to import them into CyberLink's PowerDirector 7.

The video doesn't even show up in the browsing window when I click on "import media file". Pleasse help. I am discouraged.

I took the plug and play route. Just plugged in my camcorder and copied the mod files to my desktop and then tried to import them into power director 7. I can see the mod videos in explorer and open them in windows media player

Noah,

What I would do is open up the video files. Have them open on your desktop. Then open Prism. Now, drag and drop the videos into the prism. Don't try and import them. Just drag and drop.

Tina, I have no clue sweetheart. I don't have a laptop unfortunately. There maybe a problem with the file size? Since I'm not sure, maybe someone with a laptop can clue you in on this.

Hi Carolyn,

I work for a charity and we just brought the canon fs100 to make some films of our work. Unfortunately we did not realize you could not edit the files in Premiere.

I have downloaded the Prism software and the files played fine in Premier but there was no audio so I downloaded www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Mega_Codec_Pack.htm as recommended by Prism in their technical support section.

I reconverted the files into Premier and now have audio HOWEVER the footage is now all jerky, frames freeze and the audio is out of sync! I feel like Canon are messing with my mind a bit with all of us this.

Have you any idea what this means and how I can fix it. All suggestions very gratefully received, am at my wits end!!!

Many thanks, Susanna

How to convert .MOD file to mpg, avi, wmv,mp4,flv,mov and other COMMON formats?

People who own JVC MOD camcorders, Panasonic MOD camcorders or Canon MOD camcorders encountered the issue with--- what to do with the MOD files? And they hold the same dream that the recorded .MOD file type can be converted to mpeg, avi, mkv, flv, mp4, wmv or whatever more common. However, most major video editing suites seem to unwillingly accept the MOD format.

Someone successfully made it simply by changing the extension from .mod to mpg, but for most people, they just failed only to find there is no audio after the extension is changed, or the changed one doesn't allow you to import these files into Windows movie maker, not to mention upload some video to Youtube.com or Facebook. People use different operation systems, windows xp, Vista or something else. No one wants to say they just want to enjoy the .mod files on camcorder

Stop wasting your time and getting p***ed off. There is a very simple program that convert .mod NOT ONLY to mpg but many others like avi, mkv, flv, mp4, wmv, rm, rmvd, mov, dv, mg2 and swf.

http://www.iorgsoft.com/Mod-Converter/]MOD converter is the one shoot all the trouble. This excellent mod conversion tool is not just a converter but also a video editing tool. From now on, with the MOD converter you can enjoy your mod video on many media player, even on portable devices like blackberry, Gphone, PSP, Creative Zen,etc.

Hi Tina, I use a laptop, but it is running XP not Vista. Could be some of the settings for Vista need to be looked at. The system requirements for Power Director 7 say that Vista is ok to use but the Everio models that are compatible don't include the MG-330. That could be the problem, however I'm sure there is an answer to all that with JVC.

JVC EVERIO MOD file share: referencing MG330 camcorder. The Cyberlink DVD Suite that comes with new HP laptops is the Deluxe version that is very limited in its features and types of files it will import. Power Director in this package is PowerDirector 7 Version DE, PowerDirector 7 Deluxe and Ultra should be able to import JVC MOD files. Check www.trustedreviews.com. the Power Director 7 DE version will not.

I have the JVC Everio camera which produces .MOD files. I use ProShow Producer for movie and slide shows but ProShow will not recognize .MOD files.

I downloaded the Prism Video Converter software. I then go to my documents, where my video files are located and move them to the prism converter. Prism converts the .MOD files to WMV or AVI or any of the others that I select ok and indicates that it saves the file to WMV or AVI or other but when I go back to my documents it still appears as a .MOD file.

How can I get the file in documents to change over to the newly converted format?

I have an Everio camcorder dealing with the mod files like everyone else. I know how to convert wich is not a problem for me. The one problem I do have is In the cyberlink power cinema program that came with the camera.

My movies are in the backup folder I try to burn the movies right from there using power cinema and I keep getting error codes and it wont burn to a dvd.

I was wondering if anyone else is having this problem or maybe my burner as just malfunctioned.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Susanna: Have you tried asking Prism about how the frames freezing and jerking? This never happened to me, but I use WMM (Windows Movie Maker) to make my movies. WMM is free (if you have Windows) and has worked fine for my movies. I upload them to youtube regularly. Have you tried it instead of Premier?

Lane: The files have to be saved separately from your .mod files folder. I simply create folders on my desktop, labeled a,b,c,d,e,f etc., and when I convert, I save them to the corresponding folder. From there, they are saved as an .avi, .mpg or whatever extension you saved them to. Then simply import the converted files into WMM.

Brian: Have you tried using a different DVD maker?

What Layman said about Google's "iOrgsoft Mod converter" sounds great! I thoroughly trust just about anything Google creates. Its worth a go! If I were having problems converting files, I would trust Google to make something that would get the job done!

Another system to rename JVC MOD Files to Mpeg
1. Create a text file in the directory where the mod files are
2. Type the following command in the text file

ren *.mod *.mpg
del *.moi
del *.pgi
pause

3. on your note pad click file> Save As >
as file name put convert.bat
under file name you will see "file type" click on it and scroll to all files
then save the text you typed in your notebat as" convert.bat"

when done you will have a new file under name convert
it will be an executed file .. you will be able to use the file any time you want to convert your movies

Enjoy

if having problem email us we will send the bat file to you

kind regards

I also had the no sound issue once the file was converted with prism...the fix was to go into the options menu and click on the conversions tab. Then under decoder options check the use ffmpeg first box. The problem was solved after trying to convert my file from .mod to mpg again.

I followed Carolyn's suggestion:
Downloaded prism software (http://www.nchsoftware.com/prism/index.html) It automatically opened up the program after download.
I added my file. When my folders list came up I had to change "video files" to "all files"for my .mod file to be recognized.

Selected .avi as my output file (I also tried .mpg but playback had sound but no picture in Windows media player.)

Selected my desktop as the output folder.

Hit select & my video was converted in a matter of moments. I checked it using Windows Media Player.

I was also able to use Windows Movie Maker with no problem.

Hope that helps!

Thank you very much Carolyn!!!

Hi,

I have had sound issues when trying to create a DVD from my movie files recorded on my JVC Everio mg-275. It has been an incredibly frustrating experience, and now I see that I am not alone. I have got to the point where I have burnt a DVD, gone to watch it and there is a picture, but no sound. Am I needing to also convert my files to AVI?

I have been using Power Producer that came with the software package. It plays with sound in the Power Producer movie player, but as soon as I burn it, the sound disappears.

I have spent hours and hours, days really, trying to create DVD's from what I have recorded with no luck and just want to get rid of my camera.

Should I just try and convert all my files to AVI? I don't want to lose quality of image or the fact that they were recorded in 16:9 ratio? Will I lose either of those? I guess I will have to deal with it.

Sandra, You're welcome!

Pete, Unfortunately, I haven't dabbled with making DVD's yet. I found Cyberlink software crappy and unsuitable for what I was trying to do, but other people have liked it, so I dunno.

You asked: Should I just try and convert all my files to AVI? I don't want to lose quality of image or the fact that they were recorded in 16:9 ratio? Will I lose either of those? I guess I will have to deal with it.

The way I understand things, yes. .avi is not as good a quality as .mpg but sometimes you've just gotta bite it and move on. 16:9 ratio is another squirrely issue. Have you looked back through the pages of this extension forum? I am sure there is an answer there somewhere for you, as this issue has been discussed a lot before.

Dominic, I have windows, not a MAC, so I'll let someone who has a MAC tackle your question:o)

Hi Pete, I have the GZ-MG275. I created a DVD yesterday. I downloaded the .MOD file to my Laptop, and then used NERO to burn the DVD direct from the .MOD file. It worked without a hitch. Great quality recording, great sound.

I have been through quite a nightmare with related issues. I hope all of my time wasted, will hopefully allow someone else to resolve their situation faster.

There are several articles around the net about this situation, here's what worked for me.

I have a JVC Everio HDD camcorder. I am running Windows Vista Home Basic.

My problems were:

-No video thumbnails showing
-Couldn't import .Mod files into Windows Movie Maker
-Windows Media Player would not play my video 16x9
-Playback was glitchy at times using WMP

I have a ton of .mod video files. I'm not taking the time to convert them all. And I certainly won't pay for a program to do it quickly.

Many articles suggest simply renaming the .mod files to .mpg or .mpeg so that WMM will recognize them.

I've found out that this DOESN'T work for Vista Basic. Only Vista Premium or Ultimate support Mpeg-2 files in WMM. Again, renaming .MOD files will not allow WMM in Vista Basic to import them.

To resolve this, you can download Windows Movie Maker 2.6 from Microsoft.com. It says only download if this or that, just get it. It allows import of Mpeg-2 video.

I tried the Vista Codec Pack, and K-Lite. Both gave me a lot of problems with playback. The winner is... CCCP. This codec pack has been the most stable and reliable.

As far as the video files not showing thumbnails, this is a codec issue. In addition to CCCP, go get Stinky's Mpeg-2 codec. After install, your video thumbnails will immediately load.

And, for those JVC owners, you need SD Copy. SD Copy was created by a JVC owner, and is an excellent program. It allows the renaming of an entire folder's .mod files to .mpg. Which WMM 2.6 will import, even in Vista Basic. You can also select 'set widescreen flag 16x9' so the correct aspect ratio is maintained. Even playing your videos back in WMP, they look much better widescreen. If that's how you film, of course.

I apologize if this is too hastily written, but I hope it helps someone. Feel free to email me any questions and I'll try to reply promptly.

changing the file extension works perfectly. When you re-encode a video, there is always a loss in quality (unless using lossless like snow). Changing the file extension to .mpg works perfectly without any degradation in quality.

I agree with mw on what to do, just instead of doing a batch file, I'd just do it manually. It's a lot easier (and possibly safer) for more novice users, or people who don't want to take time to figure it out (it's a lot easier to remember anyway)

Hi Everyone-Having-Trouble with Keeping-Both-Video and Sound!

First of all, Thanks for this thread! I was able to complete a grad-school project because of it. I just downloaded the prism software and was able to convert .mod files to .avi. Both the audio and video work in Windows Movie Maker. When I converted, I selected the following:

Video Compressor-
MJPEG Compresser

Audio Compressor-
MPEG Layer 3

You can use iVerio Video Convert to convert multiple .MOD and .TOD video files from JVC Camcorders in once.

After conversion all your video files are dated and order and you can play or edit them in all video players Quicktime, Windows Media player, iMovie, Final Cut, Premiere...
