The .m2 file extension belongs to a model object file used in 'World Of Warcraft', a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) developed by Blizzard Entertainment.

The .m2 format (also called MDX) contains information the models used in game such as materials, texture names, animations and properties. These models are used for decoration objects, players and monsters etc - everything except terrain and WMOs.
