.JPG2 File Extension

JPEG 2000 Image

Image File
The JPG2 file format was recommended and standardized in 2000 by the Joint Photographic Experts Group. The standard is two parts and was introduced in order to provide a better compression than the original JPG standard; while it does produce modest compression gains, its main benefit is that the compression system is much more flexible than the original compression system and can give performance gains to programs who take advantage of this flexibility. However, it also can require more computationally advanced encoder and decoder systems.
