I can't believe this people from black berry, such a good cel phone, such a bad support, nothing works, when you want to repair anything from the device, or when you need to use the information in the laptop.. Please black berry people, improve!

I was having the same problem. You dont need to open it. When you open the desk top manager click on backup/restore. Choose restore. I just did it and everything including my pictures were transferred to the new phone. It was really easy once I realized I didn't need to open it. Hope this helps everyone out.

I have backed up my blackberry storm on to my home PC but I can't seem to open it up to see if it worked or not. I'm trying to see if has downloaded my contacts/address book properly.

Do I need to download a specific program?

Having same problem as most. I now have the motorola cliq. Is there anyway I can retrieve my address phone book from the Black berry desktop manager to download it on my cliq?

Had to wipe my BB for a number os strange issues. Backed the IPD file and can "view" contacts, pictures etc. All I want is to get my pictures? Before I shell out any $, can I save the photos using ABC Amber, or is there another way to retrieve my photos?

Tried to backup my address book cause it's very important. I downloaded DeskTopManager and it told me I needed to upgrade my OS or I could not use it. So I downloaded/installed and without any warning it wiped out all my files!

I have a slightly twisted issue with my ipd files. I use a BB 9500 storm which crashed recently. To bring it back to life I installed the BB 5.0 OS.

The good news was that I often backed up my phone on my laptop but shortly before the phone crashed, I had problems with my laptop and formatted it. Before I formatted the laptop though, I had the (laptop) data backed up on an external hard disk but the hard disk didn't pick up the ipd files (unfortunately I only got to notice this after my phone crashed).

In an attempt to retrieve my contacts, I used the get-data-back application to recover files from the formatted laptop. Now I have the ipd files and they don't seem corrupted but the BB desktop manager and the ABC converter do not recognise the ipd files as blackberry files.

All I really need are my contacts. Any kind ideas?

What a useless backup system BB has. I cannot transfer contact list from my other phones to BB. Cannot open, view, add or edit the BB contact list.

I refuse to transfer the contact list and other contents, one by one from my Nokia to the BB. My Nokia phones are a breeze to use, backup, edit, add, delete as far as the various contents are concerned.

Made a serious mistake getting the BB. What a sheer waste of money.

If you want to find a particular number from your address book, just open the file with wordpad and search for the name. Once you've found the name, after a few random characters, you should see the number.

I have recently replaced my dopod with a Blackberry. Since they are both MS compliant, I thought it would be easy to restore my dopod backed up file (in MS Outlook) into my BB. Bad assumption! Everytime I select Restore in the BB desktop Manager main menu, it starts looking for a *.ipd file. HELP

Ron, You don't use the restore feature. You must configure synchronization in BB Desktop Manager to sync the Outlook data to your BB.
