HDMOV is a format that is used by Apple to describe high definition video content. Although the extension is a proprietary extension, the content is encoded using the H.264 video codec as well as the H.264 audio codec and can be played back by any player that can use the H.264 codecs that are commonly installed with many video players and not just with the Apple QuickTime software.
