The .gadget extension is used by Microsoft's Windows Vista for the Windows sidebar. The sidebar is anchored to the side of the Windows Vista desktop and is used to hold simple tools, such as the time, weather information, RSS feeds or to control Windows applications such as Windows media player.
If you have downloaded a gadget (to find more gadgets, see the links section below) simply double-click the gadget and Windows Vista should install it to the sidebar automatically.
