Windows Live Messenger/MSN Saved Contact List

Data File
TIP: Run a Free Scan for .CTT File Errors.
Windows Live Messenger (previously known as MSN Messenger), is a free instant messaging client, developed by Microsoft for computers running the Microsoft Windows operating system.

The .ctt file type is used by Windows Live Messenger to store a backup of a user's contact list, that can easily be imported back in to WLM at a later stage. The .ctt file is really just a text file in the XML format, and can be opened using notepad if required.

To backup your contact list/address book:

- Click the down arrow at the top of the messenger window (To the right of the "Windows Live Messenger" text).
- Select "Contacts" menu
- Select "Save Instant Messaging Contacts"
- Specify the save location (defaults to your 'My Documents' folder), and click save.

Your contacts list will now be saved in the .ctt file format.

To restore your contact list/address book:

- Click the down arrow at the top of the messenger window (To the right of the "Windows Live Messenger" text).
- Select "Contacts" menu
- Select "Import Instant Messaging Contacts"
- Locate the .ctt contacts file and click open.

Your contacts list should now be restored.

Does Windows Messenger automatically record and save copies of instant message conversations or is that a configuration setting you need to set up? I would like to find a past conversation if it is on my hard drive.
