The Advanced Stream Redirector (.ASX) format is a type of XML metafile designed to store a playlist of Windows Media files. The format uses XML syntax and supports ANSI and Unicode UTF-8 encoding.
It is frequently used on streaming video servers where multiple ASF file are to be played.
The .ASX file contains information such as author and copyright and bibliographical information, as well as how the file is presented with actions and settings in Windows Media Player.
