APPLICATION files are created by Visual Studio and are used by the .NET Framework in order to deploy an application using ClickOnce. These files store deployment properties in an XML format; these properties include the name, the version of the application, the dependencies of the application, and digital signature.
These files generally have another file stored with them that have the APPREF-MS file type and are activated once the APPLICATION file is clicked.
